Second Vegan Pregnancy
My beautiful second Vegan Pregnancy. About 10 years ago when I first went vegan I went to Gynecologist for check ups. He explained me that by applying a Vegan Diet I won’t be able to have children in the future. The doctor suggested to go back to animal products and a funny fact is that a few years later turned Vegan himself.
But that was not the only doctor who told me conceiving won’t be possible when eating plants only. The interesting fact is that both pregnancies were planed to the day. I did not have a problem conceiving both times. I know is that a Vegan Diet actually helps treating infertility.
According to a study by researchers at the University of Adelaide’s Robinson Research Institute Women who eat low amounts of fruit and high amounts of processed fast-food are less likely to conceive.
After 10 years on a Vegan Diet and after helping women as a Dietitian I face the Fertility problems every day. Most woman whom I work with have health problems from Thyroid, Insulin Resistance to PCOS and Endometriosis which does not help conceiving. Often after they have conceived the amount of supplements and medicine they must take is terrifying. The background in my family or the genetic predispositions aren’t helping me either but I am sure that a Vegan Diet has a direct link to conceiving, healthy pregnancy and healthy children.
I am currently 15 weeks pregnant . I hope and pray my 2nd pregnancy will go as smooth as the first one but I know that a balanced diet is disease prevention and best way to avoid any health problems while pregnant or not.
SUPPLEMENTS :
Contrary to popular belief, calcium is abundant in a plant-based diet and comes in a form which is really easy for the human body to process and digest. Vegans can get plenty of calcium, and so pregnancy presents no problems here. Dairy might be high in calcium, but casein – the protein in cow’s milk – is difficult for the human body to successfully assimilate into actual calcium. It’s better to get our calcium from plant sources. My first pregnancy I did supplement but only B12 and Iron like every other pregnant woman. The rest of the nutrients came mostly from RAW Fruits and Vegetables.
Folic Acid
(synthetic form of Vitamin B9) is important for both conception and early pregnancy. So if you’re planning to have a baby, try and include the right amount in your diet. (about 800 micro grams a day). Vegan and non-vegans alike can benefit from prenatal vitamins to help get all the folic acid needed. Folic Acid supplementation isn’t necessary when you are on a Raw/Healthy Balanced Vegan Diet as you consume plenty of high in Folate (natural form of Vitamin B9) foods.
If you need any help introducing more fruits and vegetables to your diet please don’t be shy to ask !
